About SKJ Lighting Design

SKJ Lighting Design is a full-service architectural lighting design consultancy based in New York. Our diverse project experience includes interior and exterior for corporative headquarters, educational, hospitality/entertainment, office buildings and interiors, public transportation, private residences, residential, and retails.


We carefully listen to our clients. We work collaboratively with owners, architects, interior designers, and other trades from initial concept to construction, understanding design aesthetic, functionality, long-term flexibility, project budget, and ease of maintenance while meeting code compliance and LEED, when required. Our design process enables the project team to visualize the effects of the proposed lighting design, using computer simulation tools and sketches/renderings. We pay attention to every detail. We ensure the design is being properly implemented. Our thoughtful work allows us to create the appropriate mood, enhancing architecture using sustainable solution and producing effective designs in a timely and efficient manner. Our goal is to provide the best-tailored lighting design service to each client for their projects needs.


The firm is currently working successfully on a number of large and small-scale projects ranging from corporate office interiors, residential, private residence, church, educational, and hotel lounge.

About Kyoungjin Lydia Shin

 

Ms. Shin has over 20 years of experience in the lighting profession. She received national awards from the Illuminating Engineering Society for her lighting of the Silver tower (High-rise residential), 601 Lexington Avenue (Corporate lobby), and the Boston Consulting Group offices (Office tenant interior). Prior to embarking on her career in lighting design, she worked as an architectural designer in both South Korea and New York on commercial and residential projects. Her fortitude and technical expertise has made her an asset to many prominent architectural teams who rely on her abilities to enhance a design. While she appreciates the aspect of the creative aspect of design, she refers to her technical background to ensure designs are buildable and practical. Ms. Shin initiates each project at conceptual design and follows it completely through construction.

About Gio Miseon Lee

Ms. Lee began her career as an exhibit designer in Seoul where she developed an interest in light and space that led her to study lighting design in New York City.

Garnering extensive experience in lighting design, she worked on various award-winning projects including the TWA Hotel & Event Center, Waldorf Astoria, and West Ferry Terminal during her tenure at Cooley Monato Studio and Domingo Gonzalez Associates prior to joining SKJ.

Ms. Lee is currently an adjunct professor at Ewha Womans University where she teaches lighting design to both graduate and undergraduate students. She has also taught lighting design at Hongik University in Seoul. Outside of lighting, she has always been interested in art and technology and checking out the latest exhibits and gadgets.
